About the Polynesian Resort

The Disney Polynesian Resort opened in 1971 as one of the original resorts at Walt Disney World. The hotel hosts 847 rooms in 11 longhouses. The two or three story high longhouses are named after South Pacific Islands.The longhouses are currently being refurbished. The main building at the resort is the Great Ceremonial House which is a virtual jungle featuring a three story atrium lobby with verdant foliage and tropical waterfalls.

The resort has a tiki lighting ceremony on the property on select evenings.

Transportation to the Magic Kingdom is with the magical monorail or a peaceful boatride. Guests can also walk to the nearby Ticket and Transportation Center to take a monorail to Epcot Center. Buses serve other areas.

Recreation

The Polynesian has two pools:

  • Nanea Volcano Pool is a zero-entry pool with a volcano and waterfall. The pool has a 142 foot waterslide. Opened in 2001
  • Polynesian East Pool is the quiet pool set in a garden

There is not a hot tub at the resort.

The hotel offers the following recreational options:

  • Marina with motor boat and sail boat rentals

  • Pool cabanas available for rent
  • Movies under the stars nightly
  • Campfires
  • Volleyball
  • Fishing
  • Jogging trail
  • Arcade
  • Never Land Club child care
  • The Electric Pageant Water Parade can be seen nightly from the beach

There is also no health club, but guests may use the one at the Grand Floridian which can be accessed via a walkway or monorail.
